Make sure to read all steps before beginning!

Wash your hands with soap and warm water

Make sure to wash the site of the prick

Avoid alcohol wipes

Check the insulin medication name and expiration date

For a new vial, remove the tab on insulin vial

You only need to do this the first time

Wipe the top of the insulin vial

Remove the bottom cap and needle cover on the syringe

Remove caps for both the tip and plunger and keep for later

Pull the plunger back to your insulin dose

Insert the syringe into the rubber stopper of the vial

Hold the bottle steady on the table

Push the air into the vial

This air is equal to your dose

Turn the vial and syringe upside down to 180 degrees

Pull the plunger down to your insulin dose

Remove the syringe from the vial

Remove air bubbles

Do this by tapping the syringe with your finger or against the table or applying slight pressure to the plunger

Choose injection site

Good injection sites are your abdomen, your thigh, or the back of your arm

Pinch the chosen site and clean it with an alcohol pad

Wait 10 seconds until the alcohol is dry

Inject the insulin syringe

Make sure to insert at a 90 degree angle

Press the plunger and count to 10 seconds

Remove the syringe

Replace syringe caps

Place the syringe in the sharps container
